Blind to the top of the world!
Harry Kikstra will guide a blind climber on Mt Everest, producing a
unique documentary and raising funds for charity
|
What is the plan?
Dutch adventurer
Harry Kikstra will face a unique and dangerous challenge: he
will try to guide german
Thomas Weber
to the summit of Mount Everest. The highest mountain in the world is
dangerous for everybody, but in this case there is an additional
challenge:
Thomas suffers from a rare eye disorder: when he climbs higher,
he loses vision. It is expected that he will be practically blind
from Basecamp upwards. It would be the first time in history that a
blind climber summits Everest from Tibet.

Eradicating Blindness in Nepal & The Himalayas
The climbers want to use this expedition to raise funds for
the Himalayan Cataract Project, an organisation (started by
American '7
summits' climber Geoff Tabin) that is focused on eradicating
curable blindness in the Himalayas. For less than $20 per
patient they perform cataract surgeries, with a new life - with
sight- as a result. The team would like to ask everybody to
support this organisation by an online donation, spreading this
information and linking to the
www.SightOnEverest.com
site. 100% of the donations go directly to the
charity.

Documentary
The climb will be filmed by 2 professional filmmakers:
Kevin Augello
&
Milan Collin.
They will climb up to 7000m, Harry will film the final part of the
climb himself. During the expedition the team will already sent out
reports and movies, afterwards a full documentary will be produced.
The team and the documentary can be sponsored as well,
contact the
team for possibilities. |
Updates & podcasts will
be placed online, live from Everest: images, conversations & videos.
They can be followed on the
expedition blog, which
can be syndicated to other sites and printed media using free RSS
feeds. |
